Municipality

Located 5 km south-east of Porrentruy and 488 m above sea level, Courgenay is one of the oldest villages in the region. The public documents mention the name of Courgenay since 1139. Its name then was Corgennard and in 1254, Corgenay. It has experienced varying fortunes over the centuries before becoming a semi-urban agglomeration called upon to play an important regional economic role. AGRICULTURE: 960 hectares of arable land and pastures for the production of cereal crops, fodder beets, potatoes and milk. The village also has a cheese factory, with the main activities in the fields of watchmaking, bar turning, cutting and mechanics. (Regional industrial zone of 18 ha near the N16, with direct access to the rail network and 6 ha of communal craft zone 200 meters from the N16 interchange.) CURIOSITIES: With sites such as LA COMBE VALENTIN, LA PINÈDE and L'ÉTANG DE LA CREULE, Courgenay is a Mecca for flora in Ajoie. Threatened by intensive agriculture and planting, these sites are now partly protected and are home to nearly 500 kinds of plants. The town also has 40% forest and has a full-time forestry team for its maintenance. THE DOLMEN DE LA PIERRE-PERCÉE: the most important of all Druidic memories of the region, at the origin of an infinity of legends.
