Saint-Ursanne, after Delémont and Porrentruy, is the third historic town in the canton of Jura. It seduces with its medieval and picturesque appearance, thanks to its three magnificent gates (Saint-Paul to the west, Saint-Pierre to the east and Saint-Jean to the south) as well as its bridge over the Doubs dedicated to St-Jean from Nepomucene. The historic center has changed very little in recent centuries and is mostly characterized by its bourgeois houses dating from the 14th to the 16th century. The abbey, originally founded by Benedictine monks, with its Romanesque basilica dating from the 12th century and its cloister, is the highlight of the town. The south portal of the collegiate church (around the year 1200) in Burgundian Romanesque style is one of the most remarkable works of this type in all of Switzerland. The small Doubs river has dug its way deep into the Jura massif along a northeast axis to then branch off near Saint-Ursanne. There, the Doubs passes under a bridge with four arches dating from the year 1728 hosting a sandstone statue of Jean Népomucène, the patron saint of bridges
